Water Softening System Versus Water Filtration

The water softening system can be used to remove or reduce hard water from your household water system. Hard H2O is high in calcium and magnesium, which can damage your plumbing and faucets. Limescale buildup can also cause blockages in your shower heads and pipes. Go here!

Your skin will also become dry from hard water, and your hair will look limp. Because soap doesn’t dissolve in hardwater, laundry can become stiff and may show visible soap residue. Dishes, glassware and dishes that are washed in the dish washer will become cloudy with white spots. Regular servicing and replacements are also required for shower heaters as well as coffee makers.

The filter can soften or reduce hardness like a softener, but there are many differences between the two systems. A filter can soften and reduce hardness, but it all depends on the household situation and your budget. Softeners are most commonly used in homes and commercial buildings.

Water softening systems work by replacing calcium and magnesium minerals with sodiumions which create softer water. When H2O comes into direct contact with the softening beads, both the hard and soft ions switch places. The sodium-filled beads absorb magnesium and calcium ions, and release sodiumions that soften water.

Filters use carbon to filter out hard minerals from household water supplies. Because the hard water minerals in your household have been reduced or eliminated, filters make the liquid more soft. Filters can be used to reduce calcium, iron, or other minerals in your water supply.

Although sodium softening water is more effective than using it to reduce hardness, it does mean that water coming out of your tap may contain high levels of sodium. Avoiding sodium softeners can make medical conditions worse, such as stroke, high bloodpressure, heart disease, kidney problems and heart attack.

Cost of using a softening or filter system depends on the size of your home, the water requirements, and the quality. Consider the cost of hiring a plumber to install both systems. Both types require professional plumbing. A water softening or filtering system will generally be more affordable than one.

Water filters can remove contaminants from your water, as well as soften it. Lead, mercury, pharmaceutical drugs and pesticides are just a few of the contaminants that filters can remove. Although water softeners can soften water, they can’t remove heavy metals and sulphates.
