Below is a short list of options.
You can learn to draw and paint by attending an art college, university or school like Pratt Institute. (I graduated from the campus in Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York City in USA and taught there later). Many people have concerns about the amount of time and money required. My four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Pratt costs more than $100,000.00 US dollars. This web article has a global audience. On the Saatchi Gallery website, you can find a good list of the best art colleges in the world. On the resources page, you will find the web address for the Saatchi Gallery Art Colleges Page.
Saatchi Gallery’s list of art schools includes my college (Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York City USA), as well as many other countries around the globe. When this article was published, the Saatchi Gallery’s art school listings spanned 57 pages and listed thousands of schools.
Take an art class at your local school. This can be a high school, college, or private school. Some localities do not offer this option, and you should check out the teacher’s qualifications before enrolling. These choices can be found on Google, or you can ask your neighbors, teachers and friends in nearby schools. If you live near an art club, they may be able to recommend some artists. Some artists offer private classes in art to groups or individuals. In the basement of our home, I taught private lessons to groups.
Pick up an oil or pencil and begin drawing. Some people, like Grandma Moses Anna Mary Robertson who started painting at the age of 81, have found success with this method. Visit the Wikipedia article (the address of the Grandma Moses Wikipedia article is in the link box below this article). Grandma Moses did not have any art training. Her paintings were originally sold for $5.00 to $10.00 USD. They now go up to $10,000.00 to $60,000.00 USD. In the 1950s, her income was reported to be $5000.00 USD. Grandma Moses passed away in 1961, at age 101.
